An automated sliding gate is a motorized gate that opens by travelling horizontally along a track or rail rather than swinging inward or outward on hinges. It comes in three main styles. Cantilever gates are self-supporting and never touch the ground, making them ideal for sloped, uneven, or snow-prone driveways where a ground track would be impractical. V-groove track gates ride on a ground-mounted V-track for smooth, stable operation on flat, well-maintained surfaces. Telescopic gates use two or more overlapping panels that collapse into a shorter footprint, for driveways that don't have enough side clearance for a single full-width panel. When Is a Sliding Gate Necessary?
A sliding gate is the right choice when the driveway is too narrow or sloped for a swing gate's arc, when you need a tight fit against the property line, or for high-traffic entries that demand fast, reliable automated open and close. Because it travels along a track rather than swinging, it works where a swing gate simply can't - short driveways, walls or landscaping close to the opening, and sloped or uneven ground. It's also the strongest option for wide commercial openings and heavy-duty security where a large, solid panel is needed.
What Is Required for Installation?
A sliding gate install starts with a site assessment to confirm ground conditions and the available side clearance - equal to the gate's width for a standard panel, or less for a telescopic gate. From there we run electrical to the operator, size a motor to the gate's weight, and install safety sensors and photo-eyes so the gate reverses before it contacts a person or vehicle. We fabricate the gate in-house, handle the track or cantilever rail, wire the operator and access control, and install everything in one coordinated build - so a single team is responsible for the whole system.
